About the Summer Challenge
The Summer Challenge is a National Citizen Service (NCS) programme, a government initiative.
NCS aims to promote a more cohesive, responsible and engaged society by bringing young people from different backgrounds together to make a difference in their communities. It is a voluntary programme for 16-year-olds which focuses on their personal and social development which includes challenging activities, from away-from-home residential experiences to a self-designed social action project.
All the details
The Summer Challenge will open at the beginning of the summer holidays with activities and team building exercises. Look out for adventure, confidence and team-building sessions and a chance to meet other young people from across the county.
Later in the summer there will be a one-week residential out of the county with lots of adventurous outdoor activities like coasteering, surfing, rock-climbing, and gorge-walking, as well as the opportunity to relax and get to know other young people on the programme.
Back in Oxfordshire, the social action challenge will give something back to your local community while developing new skills such as arts, creative media, music, performance, events organisation and more.
At the end of the summer each team will have another trip away to create an end of programme presentation which will be shown at the joint graduation ceremony at the end of the programme.
And it doesn’t stop there; after the Summer Challenge you will be invited to take part in other activities, including an Opportunities and Activities Fair in October which will focus on your future.
Get ahead with the summer challenge
The Summer Challenge only runs for part of the summer, so you can still fit in a holiday, but it’s important to get registered soon and commit to the dates as spaces are limited, but there will be a waiting list for people keen to take part.
