Positive Activities Champions
Young champions all across Oxfordshire are helping us get the message out about positive activities
The Positive Activities Partnership is working to improve information about local activities. We're also working to identify gaps where we could offer better or different activities. We're also looking into ways that we can support young people to overcome the barriers that stop them doing the activities they like.
But none of this will help if young people don't want to do positive activities in the first place. This is where the Positive Activities Champions come in.
Young Champions
Positive Activities Champions are young people who are helping us to promote engagement with positive activities. So far they've provided all kinds of support, from helping us improve this website to providing materials from the pack we sent around schools, and much more:
- Young people were stewards, announcers and performers at the Oxfordshire Activities Fair
- School Councils in the Cherwell Area have set up special Positive Activities Noticeboards, and sent young person champions to talk at assemblies
- Several groups of young people have created films to promote positive activities
- Positive Activity promotion was a major discussion point in the South and Vale Area Youth Forums
Look out for more from our Positive Activity Champions as the year goes on.
You can be a Champion too
All over the county, young people are working to promote positive activities to their friends and peers. They're running sessions, taking part in consultations and planning things like promotional activities, taster days and activity fairs.
But you don't have to be a school council member or in your local Youth Council to do your bit. There's plenty you can do to promote Positive Activities and become a champion yourself. There are even some things you can do without leaving your room!
Here are three things you can do right now:
- Like the Activities Oxfordshire page on Facebook - It just takes a moment and you'll find out about events, clubs and more all over Oxfordshire
- Tell a friend about an activity - Seen something interesting? Tell a friend! Whatever it is, you're more likely to give it a go when there are two of you
- Improve the information on this website - Seen something out of date? Local Club missing? You can help make the information on this website better, just click on "Suggest Update for this Activity" on any activity page or find out more about adding activities
Young Champions are still hard at work in their schools and communities, letting young people know about activities, and encouraging those that aren't doing activities to get involved.
So thank you, young champions, we couldn't do it without you.
Downloadable resources
We have posters, banners, promotional cards and other materials we can use to help support your work as a positive activities champion. Some of them you can download here, others you will need to get in touch. Email rosie.boyes@oxfordshire.gov.uk to ask about what sort of support might be available.
